In 1973, Roy Menagh moved from Toronto to Yellowknife to teach music in the public schools.

As well as the celebrated high school music program at Sir John Franklin High School, he organized countless community based musical events not only for Yellowknife but for many other northern communities.

Roy was integral in the early discussions and planning for the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre in Yellowknife.

Throughout his life, he has been a tour de force in facilitating community engagement with the arts.

The fact that many of his music students from Sir John Franklin High School are still playing music today is perhaps Roy’s most endearing legacy.
